After much contemplation as to what I was going to write, I realized that Friends the t.v. show would be a great example of gender roles. In one episode that I recently watched, Joey the goofy lovable character sported a purselike briefcase. He was coaxed into buying it and thought it would look perfect with all of his attire. He sported it everywhere and thought it looked great, and didn't have a care in the world about how it made him look. This carefree attitude was soon burst by the somewhat pessimistic character, Chandler. Chandler couldn't even imagine that Joey would wear a purse everyday which le later exclaimed as a "murse".
This episode just reminded me that most stereotypes of any types of bags are geared more towards women. Also if men are seen with these type of bags they can be put into a category of being too "feminine". A bag is maininly thought of as a woman's possession because bags are a woman's lifeline where they can hold most of their belongings in it. The episode also shows that certain items that are for one gender or the other.
